Dooner Opposes Supplemental Budget
With Increased Funding for Migrants

Taunton, MA …Taunton City Councilor and candidate for the State Senate Kelly Dooner announced her opposition to the Senate Supplemental budget passed late Thursday night.

“The Senate has refused to amend the right to shelter so the unlimited spending will continue. We need to stop Massachusetts from being a magnet state. Our resources must be limited to our residents,” said Dooner. “The appropriations passed yesterday will only continue the problems.”

The Senate passed another costly supplemental budget funding emergency housing for migrants. While the Senate claims to have established a 9 month cap on the housing, there are numerous loopholes to the cap including unlimited extensions and exemptions for vague medical conditions, children in school, and so-called progress on work placement.

“The Senate has failed the hard working taxpayers,” said Dooner.

Dooner was elected to the Taunton City Council in 2021 being the youngest woman ever elected to the City Council. She has served as the President of the City Council, worked to make Taunton a Purple Heart City, worked with Mayor O’Connell on doubling the Senior Tax Credit, and helped bring a commonsense voice to the city’s financial issues.

Dooner is a lifelong resident of Massachusetts. She earned her paralegal certificate in applied legal studies at Boston University. Dooner has been actively involved in the Massachusetts Young Republicans and serves on their Executive Board as the National State Committeewoman.
